Difference
The standard

In line with previous Fitbit Charge releases, its flagship, the Charge 4, comes in a special edition. For the Charge 3, the special edition meant getting the Fitbit Pay feature and a woven band instead of the classic one. The upcoming Charge 4 range has made Fitbit Pay a standard inclusion for both the standard and the Charge 4 Special Edition (SE).

New features: GPS
The standard

Built-in GPS has long been a coveted feature among Fitbit users, and the Charge 4 is the company's answer. Both the regular Charge 4 and the Charge 4 Special Edition (SE) are the only fitness trackers from Fitbit that don't rely on your smartphone to track and record your distance and pace.
Even Fitbit smartwatches don't have built-in GPS. Anyone who likes to work out or work out without the hassle of a smartphone will find this update useful. Fitbit also offers GPS-based workouts from its app to maximize this new feature.
New Features: Active Zone Minutes
Standard Charge 4 and Charge 4 Special Edition feature Fitbit Active Zone Minutes

Fitbit has introduced its new active zone minutes on the Standard Charge 4 and Charge 4 Special Edition. This update allows you to set your Active Zone Minutes goal and receive personalized recommendations based on your heart rate readings to help you meet your steps, distance, exercise and workout goals.
Also, more credit is given to high-intensity activities for helping you get your heart rate up. Your height, your weight Fitbit has announced that it will implement this in its smartwatches, but has not mentioned the inclusion of Active Zone Minutes in the older Charge models.
New Features: Smart Activation
The Standard Charge 4 and Charge 4 Special Edition come with Fitbit's Smart Wake feature, previously only available on its smartwatches.

When Fitbit launched the Charge 3 in the fall of 2018, it came with a built-in SPO2 sensor that measures oxygen levels in the blood. However, Fitbit recently released an update that enabled this feature.
The Charge 4's smart wake feature is the same. Fitbit announced that the latest Charge 4 (including the special edition) will offer Smart Wake, but it's coming "soon." Exactly when remains to be seen. We hope it will be released much sooner as it was already available on the company's range of smartwatches.
Once Fitbit has enabled this, your Charge 4 can wake you up at the optimal time based on your sleep data. Smart Wake wakes you up in the morning during REM or light sleep so you feel better when you wake up.
smart features
Both the regular Charge 4 and Charge 4 Special Edition offer Fitbit Pay and Spotify controls

Whether you choose Standard Charge 4 or Special Edition, you can make contactless payments at select locations that accept Fitbit Pay. You can set up your bank or card with your Charge 4 and pay with your Fitbit. As long as the facility accepts contactless payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay, you can use Fitbit Pay. This alleviates the need to take your phone or wallet with you when running or cycling.
Another small but definitely useful update to the Charge 4 is the ability to manage Spotify tracks directly from your fitness tracker. This is useful for users whose headphones do not have a user-friendly interface for managing tracks.
Connectivity and compatibility
Standard Charge 4 and Charge 4 Special Edition pair seamlessly with NFC pairing

Fitbit Pay works thanks to the NFC (Near Field Communication) connectivity that your Charge 4 is equipped with. This makes pairing your Fitbit with your device a quick and easy process. Just download the Fitbit app, hold Charge 4 near your device, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Both the standard Charge 4 and the Charge 4 Special Edition are compatible with iOS, Android and Windows. This ensures that all smartphone users can pair a Fitbit with their device. Call and message notifications are also available for Android users.
battery life and water resistance
Both

For accurate results and interpretations of heart rate data, including sleep quality, it is recommended that you wear your Fitbit while you sleep. Because of this, the Charge 4's battery life can last up to 7 days. So you can wear your fitness tracker almost all day. However, frequent use of the built-in GPS leads to significantly shorter usage times.
